What to expect when you reach out

The intake process is designed to be straightforward and respectful. Here is what happens after you contact us.

step 01

Phone screen

A brief call to introduce yourself and learn whether The Bee Sanctuary is the right fit for where you are right now.

step 02

Application

Complete a short written application sharing your background, recovery journey, and what you are hoping to build here.

step 03

Interview

A deeper conversation — in person or by phone — to walk through house agreements, answer your questions, and get to know each other.

step 04

Referral verification

We confirm any referral information from your treatment provider, counselor, probation officer, or case manager.

step 05

30-day probation

Your first 30 days are a mutual settling-in period. We check in regularly, offer support, and confirm this is the right home for you.

  • The Bee Sanctuary is a supportive shared living residence for adults 18 and older who are working to rebuild their lives. We welcome people in recovery from substance use, transitioning from treatment, or in need of a stable, structured environment to get back on their feet.

Our home is substance-free and built around community accountability. Residents come with different stories — what they share is a commitment to their own growth and a willingness to be part of something supportive.

  • The intake interview is a conversation, not a test. We want to understand your situation, your goals, and whether The Bee Sanctuary is the right environment for you right now. We will walk through the house rules and community agreements together, and you will have the chance to ask us anything.

A drug and alcohol screening is part of the admission process. We ask for this not as a judgment, but because maintaining a substance-free home protects everyone in the community.

  • Many of our residents come to us directly from treatment programs, sober living, or other structured environments. If you are currently in treatment and planning your next step, we encourage you to reach out early — even before you have a firm discharge date. We can talk through timing and help you plan a smooth transition.

  • Residents are expected to be engaged in a productive activity — employment, school, active job searching, volunteering, or another approved pursuit. Within the first week of residency, you will work with us to develop a personal progress plan that reflects your goals and current circumstances.

We understand that circumstances vary. What matters is that you are moving forward with intention.

  • Relapse is a reality of recovery, and we approach it with compassion rather than punishment. However, because The Bee Sanctuary is a substance-free home, active substance use on the premises is not something we can accommodate — it puts the entire community at risk.

If a resident relapses, we will have an honest conversation about what happened and what support is needed. In most cases, this means a temporary leave to access a higher level of care, with the possibility of returning when stability is reestablished. Each situation is handled individually.

  • We want to be transparent about this. Admission may not be possible if an applicant:

    • Is actively under the influence during intake
    • Refuses drug or alcohol screening
    • Has a recent history of violent behavior that would jeopardize resident safety
    • Requires a higher level of care than the home can provide
    • Refuses to comply with house rules or recovery expectations
    • Demonstrates behavior that would significantly disrupt the community environment

If we are not the right fit right now, we will do our best to point you toward resources that are.

Program Costs & Financial Expectations

Transparent about what it takes to be here.

The Bee Sanctuary is a fee-based sober and transitional living program.

Residents contribute weekly program fees that help cover housing, utilities, shared supplies, and program operations.

Fees vary based on individual circumstances.

Payment is required at intake and must remain current to maintain program participation.

We understand financial hardship and are happy to discuss whether our program is a good fit for your current situation.

Have questions about fees or financial fit? We're happy to talk it through.

Veteran-Friendly

Built for those who know the value of structure.

Our co-founder is a U.S. Army Veteran who understands firsthand how difficult the transition to civilian life can be — especially without a stable, substance-free environment. The Bee Sanctuary was built with that transition in mind: disciplined, supportive, and rooted in community.

Structure

A consistent daily rhythm and clear house expectations — the same foundation that makes military life work.

Accountability

Residents hold each other to their commitments. No one succeeds alone, and no one is left behind.

Camaraderie

A community of people who understand the weight of transition and show up for one another.
